NEW IN: Clarisonic Mia ~ Pink

Hiddley Ho Ladies,

Yesterday saw me finally get my hands on my very own Pink Clarisonic Mia...
... last Autumn I was determined to purchase one, but talked myself out of it, worried that I'd experience a phase of using it, then lose interest.
Yes, electric toothbrush I'm talking about you :o)

If you have followed my blog for a while, you will know that I have oily skin, prone to some serious breakouts.
However, I'm 99% sure that the method of contraception I was using was the reason for this; and so whilst I am no longer using it, I believe that it may be some time before the "effects" are truly out of my body/system.

The "clear" skin on my face i.e. the skin that isn't covered in blemishes, is prone to over-sized pores, some dryness, dullness and occasional redness.

My hope is that my skin does clear up now that I've changed contraception methods, and I'll be left with OK skin like I used to have; with the Clarisonic only helping to transform it into great skin.

Now whilst I am by no means at liberty to give a full and thorough review of this product; I did want to record my initial thoughts, in case I forgot them by the time I do come to review it weeks/months down the line.

First up, how I used it... I ensured that I had removed my eye make-up by hand, as I did not want to use this around my eyes; the rest of my face was however, covered in make-up.
I wet my face slightly and then made sure the Clarisonic brush head was damp and applied the Gentle Hydro Cleanser that it came with.

I would say that you only need to make the brush head ever so slightly damp, as any excess water will drip down the handle and make the process very messy.

When you first use this, the vibration is so slight that you don't really feel like it's doing anything, and wonder how it can be effective - however, after using this for the first time yesterday evening, my skin has NEVER felt cleaner. NEVER.

Clarisonic advise that you spend 10 seconds cleansing each cheek, 20 seconds on your forehead and 20 seconds on your chin and nose area; which I did - I then rinsed my face to rid it of cleanser and the make-up that was on the surface of the skin.

I debated for some time over which Clarisonic to get, but I didn't think the Deluxe System was for me, as I didn't intend to use it on my body.
The Classic Clarisonic is £155 and has two speeds, however, so many of the reviews I read had people saying they only tended to use one of those speeds, and other than that, the Classic is slightly bigger than the Mia, which a lot of people said wasn't ideal for ease of travel.
The Classic also has a docking station, rather than a lead to charge it (or so I believe), but as I don't have any outlets in my bathroom, that wouldn't be a very useful feature to me anyway.

I do have a few reservations about the Mia based on other people's reviews such as it causing breakouts, dry-skin etc, but I appreciate that my skin could have an initial bad reaction to this huge change in it's cleansing method, and will try and bear with it.

Next to my hand to give you an idea of the size

24 hours of charging provides 18 minutes of use with the Mia.
The Mia retails at £120 in the UK, pricey but good skin (hopefully) is worth it... to me at least!

I will definitely give you an update when I have been using this product for some time, but having used it just twice in 12 hours (once last night, once this morning), over half of my blemishes are gone, my skin feels ultra clean, my pores are visibly smaller (though still visible),  my skin is visibly less red than usual and it feels plump and ultra soft.
Whilst that could change, I must say I'm impressed with these instant results, especially when it felt like the Clarisonic was barely doing anything other than emitting a slight vibration.
--------------------------------

So there we have it ladies, my very first impressions of the Clarisonic Mia, have you got a Clarisonic? Have you ever been tempted to purchase one, but been put off by the price-tag or dubious about the miracle claims like I initially was?
Get involved and share below ladies, you know that I love to hear from you!

Thank you all so much for reading and enjoy your evenings ♥

    1. Well this one is £120, fortunately I knew someone who worked for a shop that sold it, and got me a third off - that definitely gave me the final push I needed to purchase it; so I can see why so many people are umming and ahhing over it x

  5. - what method of contraception are you using ?
I've read your whole blog all the way to the start and see you have tried a few ..
Have you ever considered the implant ? or do you want something more short term ?

    - I love your 'passion' so to speak for neutral colours, my wardrobe could use some more colour as I have a fair few neutrals :)

    1. Thanks for asking Angeliika, I'm using the patch right now; I do think it will help with my skin problems as I had none when I used to use it - but I would consider the implant if the patch doesn't work for me 2nd time around.

Ha, I love my neutrals :oD however, with Spring on the way I've been injecting a little more colour into my wardrobe - so you should too, let's be enablers together x

    1. It is a LOT of money for any item, but for me, it's worth the gamble as my skin really makes me unhappy at the mo. I'd say if your skin is OK, then save your pennies for something else extravagant :o) x

  11. I really don't know whether I should splash out on this or not, definitely going to keep an eye on your progress! I had the same problem with my contraception, I had the injection and then the implant but they both made my skin awful! xx

    1. Oh I hear you on the injection front, but am interested that the implant did the same as so many people say it didn't affect their skin - a perfect example of how we're all so different I suppose. Thanks for sharing! x

  12. For me it really didn't work. I had horrific skin after an initial few days of great effects. I ended up chucking mine away. I cant help but think any hand held face brush could do the same job and be a hellova lot cheaper!!! xx

    1. Do you think you experienced the infamous purging stage people talk about, where the skin goes nuts for a few weeks? I am literally crossing my fingers and toes that it doesn't happen to me, as in just a couple of days, my skin is so much better, both in feel and appearance, and my skin was really getting me down :-(
No face brush I used ever made any difference, yet this seems to really be helping, so perhaps it's just down to the individual... sorry to hear that your experience wasn't great though! x

  13. I'm tempted to try the sigma version as it's so much cheaper especially when you buy the spa set with it too! :)

  14. Hi Hun, I have been using Mia for 5 months now and I can honestly say it is a brilliant product. I haven't ever suffered from irritated skin, just the odd blemish from time of the month, but this never broke me out at all, from the first use I could feel how deep the cleansing was and my skin glows now. You can read my review on it here if you like: http://dynopupbeauty.blogspot.co.uk/2012/01/clarisonic-sonic-skin-cleansing-system.html

You probably already know that if your skin is irritated, using makeup on top clogs your pores more and that's why you break out but us girls cant live without makeup! So perhaps consider using an oil free foundation and look for a water based one? This will help your skin clear up more, as oil based foundations don't help the amount of sebum your skin is producing.

To clear up any marks you can try using Clarins Lotus Oil treatment - Yes this is an oil but it works as a special 'treatment' tricking your skin into thinking it's producing too much oil/sebum and encourages it to produce less of it's own, eventually the breakouts and excess sebum production will slow down and your skin will begin to clear up. You can read my review on Clarins Lotus oil here if you like to see how it works: http://dynopupbeauty.blogspot.co.uk/2012/03/clarins-lotus-face-treatment-oil-review.html

I hope this helps! But either way atleast you know when your using your Clarisonic that your skin is getting rid of all the dirt and makeup! You'll have cleaner skin and that can only be a good thing eventually leading up to good skin! Hope you feel more happy with your skin and Mia works out for you really well! xxxxxxxxx

    1. First up, THANK YOU for taking the time to leave a long and thoughtful comment... it's only been a few days, but my skin feels so clean, smooth and soft; and there is a reduction in my blemishes. I'm not sure if that's because the harmful hormones in my former contraceptive are finally leaving my body - but like you say, no matter what, the Mia is giving me ultra clean and well cared for skin.

I'm fortunate enough not to have any scarring - but thank you for the Clarin's Lotus Oil recommendation! I love a good skin oil anyway, so I'll bear it in mind for a future purchase all the same. Thank goodness the surface of my skin isn't really oily; which is why I was always so puzzled by the breakouts :-( but I'm really impressed with how the Clarins oil works from the sound of things!

Thanks again hun, I'll defo check your blog out now :-) x
